I am a gun enthusiast in Canada. i do not presume to have any answers but instead offer a suggestion or two. Looking from the outside it seems that you have an almost unsolvable problem. Unlike Canada, the individual states in the U.S. have all the power to create their own gun laws. Criminals just go to states where the laws are more lax. In Canada we have a gun licencing system that is federal. Each individual must be licenced to acquire firearms or ammunition. I must pass a safety course before I may apply for my gun licence. I need to reapply for my licence every five years just like my driver's licence. No matter where I go in Canada I need to show my licence to purchase a firearm or ammunition. We also got rid of our long gun registry because it just cost money and did nothing to stop crime. We still retain a registry on all restricted weapons. Basically this class of gun is handguns. I feel that we have found the happy median between gun ownership and crime prevention. Realistically, there will always be crime. I would suggest that you have a close look at all of our gun laws but that would be a waste of time because as we all know, Canadians are the great enemy of America.
